The Martin Drive Neighborhood is a lovely neighborhood nestled within 10 minutes of downtown Milwaukee, with easy expressway and public transportation access for convenience to all areas of the city and surrounding areas, and is also convenient to shopping and recreational parks.

A tour of Martin Drive will confirm much pride of ownership in the neighborhood which consists of 74.5% owner-occupied homes. This quiet oasis is a neighborhood of fine quality and well-maintained Milwaukee Bungalow homes, with most homes affordably priced in the $45,000-$80,000 range, although some go much higher.

The resident driven neighborhood has been active for over seven years and boasts of a crime rate much lower than the rest of the city. Every block in the neighborhood is represented by Block Captains, and in 1994 the neighborhood was honored by Mayor Norquist and Chief Arreola of the Milwaukee Police Department as the Outstanding District Block Club of the Year in District Three.

The Martin Drive Neighborhood Council meets faithfully each month to communicate and resolve neighborhood issues, thereby maintaining high standards and guidelines we have set for our neighborhood. The neighborhood is ethnically and culturally diverse and all residents are welcome to attend any meeting. A great sense of sharing and the cohesiveness of the neighborhood is displayed by this conscientious group … a plain, old-fashioned neighborhood, community minded, where people care about their neighbors. The neighborhood publishes quarterly newsletters, hosts an annual meeting and an annual neighborhood clean-up and Night Time Trick or Treat.

Located just west of Miller Brewing Company and Harley-Davidson, the neighborhood has formed a partnership and alliance with these strong Milwaukee employers.

The Martin Drive Neighborhood is a CDBG and NHS-Milwaukee neighborhood meaning many resources are available to the residents, including the low-interest home improvement loans and rebates for many home repairs. Home buying counseling and down-payment assistance grants are also available.

Good Neighbors Needed

1. Come to the monthly meetings 2nd Monday of every month at 1219 N 45th Street. 6:30 PM. Watch for signs posted at 45th and Juneau prior to meeting date.

2. Pick up litter around your house and neighborhood

3. Plant flower to beautify Martin Drive Community.

4. Support Local business's around the Martin Drive Neighborhood

5. Water and cut and Maintain you Lawn.

6. Watch out for children, Yours and Others.

7. Watch your neighbors property

8. Keep noise down after 10:00 PM weekdays and 11:00 PM weekends.

9. Report suspicous activities to the police.

MARTIN DRIVE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL

MISSION

1. Maintain or increase the percentage of owner-occupied Households in the Neighborhood.
2. Enhance crime prevention to make the Neighborhood a safer place to live.
3. Bring Neighborhood residents together with representatives from City and County government, local Businesses and NHS-Milwaukee in a collaborative effort to accomplish our goals.

FUNCTIONS

1. Plan and oversee the spending of the Neighborhood budget.
2. Plan and carry out events that address Neighborhood problems and bring residents of the Neighborhood together.
3. Serve as a vehicle for residents to identify neighborhood concerns and issues, and develop effective ways of addressing them.
4. Elect representatives to the NHS Board and committees.

COUNCIL COMPOSITION

The Council is a block-watch driven group comprised of residents from each block in the Neighborhood.

MEETINGS

Council meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 1219 N. 45th Street. All Neighborhood residents are welcome and are eligible to vote on all issues.

WHY ME?

As a member of the Council, you have a direct opportunity to improve the Martin Drive Neighborhood, making it a safer and better place to live. You can bring neighborhood concerns and issues directly to elected officials, and get results.

1. You have a direct influence on how NHS-Milwaukee’s resources are used in the Neighborhood.
2. You learn about programs and services that are available to Neighborhood residents.
3. Through the Council’s role in the Neighborhood Strategic Planning of the City of Milwaukee, you can help design and direct the future of the Martin Drive Neighborhood.

The Martin Drive Neighborhood Council is dedicated to the
preservation of this Neighborhood. Greater community
involvement is necessary to accomplish our goals.
