  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

I am upset by the carport being built at 2717 N.W. 44th. This clearly seems too large, is obstructive, and changes the whole look of the neighborhood. If this is compliant with the neighborhoods regulations, how would it look if everyone built a structure such as this? Granted, it blends with the house architecture, but it is too large. It looks like a work shop with half walls.  It certainly would not be allowed in a full fledged historical district. Do we want our conservation district to have more of these?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you.

I  disagree with the above opinion.  It's the most attractive carport I've ever seen (and loving old houses myself, I am very particular)!  If you have to have a carport, I wish more people would build nice ones like this.  I've never liked or seen an attractive carport.   I think it's very nice.  I like the old fashioned light on the end of it and I think it blends well with the house.  Obviously, it has to be long and wide enough to hold their cars and the roof is very nice compared to the average flat roof.   To me, it just looks like an extension of the house and blends well with the roof line.  I don't think that it's an obstruction.  It's very open looking.   It does change the look of the neighborhood....for the better.  I've always lived in historic districts and I wish more people in this neighborhood would improve the curb appeal of their homes.  It feels like a run down neighborhood, which is disappointing, because I live here, and probably always will.
