Mayfair Park Neighborhood
Mayfair Park is a neighborhood that began during World War II to provide much needed housing for both active and ex-servicemen and their families.
Several of the first homeowners had been or were currently stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. The first homes built were modest single-story brick bungalows, some under 800 square feet. Larger homes were built in the later 1950's at the western edge of the neighborhood, to provide a mix of different housing units. This mix of housing sizes provides for a wide range in the income and size of the households in Mayfair Park. This neighborhood has also been closely linked with the Lowry rental units west of Quebec Street and north of 1st Avenue. These units,
once military housing, are now know as Sunset Village, and are part of the redevelopment efforts of what was formerly known as Lowry Air Force Base.
Our neighborhood association began life as the "920." It was simply named for being the 20th precinct of the 9th electoral district in Denver. To give us more of a neighborhood sense, we adopted the legal deed description on many of our homes, Mayfair Park, and we became the Mayfair Park Neighborhood Association.
