Need More Neighborhood Events

Posted in: SIPNA
SIPNA needs more neighborhood events!

Specifically, we need more events that are fun in nature and likely to draw larger crowds, encourage fellowship and increase membership.

There is nothing wrong with what we currently are doing. The regular meetings are a necessity and sometimes can be fun. The work days are great for those who like that sort of thing. Night Out is okay - though whoever decided to schedule the national event in August apparently lives some place less hot and humid than Memphis! The thing is - these events aren't doing a good job of drawing across the generations living in our area. It is easy enough to say ''any concerned residents should attend'' but people have many things vying for their attention and these just don't float to the top of their list.

What I am thinking of are events with themes. Oktoberfest? A holiday themed event? Concerts in the park? We could even have a ''Kite Day'' in the park! These are events that would get people involved both as attendees and as volunteers. The key is to pick a date months in advance, plan the event, then publicize it EVERYWHERE. Put posters up in every local establishment, blast it out in the newsletter, use e-mail communication.
