Are you missing your Kent Reporter?  Well our Homeowners Association Board Members decided it was in all of our best interest to cancel it for the whole community.  The rationale behind it was there are some people who don't pick it up and the neighborhood is looking trashy.  The newsletter stated that the individual homeowners could call the Kent Reporter and request it be reinstated.    I called a couple of times and had to leave messages.  No one returned my call.  I called back today (Sat, April 5) and finally got a real person.  I was told that since the board cancelled the paper with the district manager, that the board would have to approve reinstatement for the paper to be delivered again through the district manager, who would not be in until next Tuesday.

After being yelled at by our esteemed president, Mr. Weros, and him telling me the board had every right to do this and I could just sue them and be chastized for incorrectly reading the newletter and to get my facts straight I hung up on him.  I called him back after my conversation with the Kent Reporter and told him that the facts in the newsletter were incorrect also and a correction should be printed.

I have to give him credit, he did apologize for his behavior, only because his children were there and overheard him yelling.  He stated that he set a bad example for them.  I really think he is setting a bad example for the Board.  Why would they want to encourage the homeowners to start a lawsuit and sue them.  It just costs all of us more money in the long run?

He did offer to retrieve a paper from the Meridian Firs paperbox and bring it to me, which I accepted and thanked him for.

He has also stated that he spoke to the Kent Reporter and you can now call and get your paper reinstated but it will have to be approved by the District Manager, who will not be back to work until Tuesday.

I would really encourage everyone to please attend the next board meeting.

I have contacted the Kent Reporter today (Tuesday 4/8) and spoke with Dawn.  I requested the name of the board member who cancelled all the subscriptions and she would not release that information.  She also told me that NO PAPERS will be reinstated until it makes it worthwhile to the carrier to bring papers into our neighborhood.  She would not even tell me how many needed to request reinstatement before she would get the papercarrier to start delivering again.

So from the actions of the board, I and a few others who have requested reinstatement, will be deprived of our rights to have a paper delivered to our homes.

If the board would have submitted a request to cancel just those who were the offenders and had not picked up their papers, or followed our CCR'S/Bylaws/House rules and imposed fines I would not have to be wasting my time trying to correct their screwup.

Once again, the masses are being punished for the few.

I do apologize for the inconvenience.  I was not told when we stopped the door to door delivery that we they would require a minimum number of residents to sign up before they would resume delivery in our neighborhood.

I spoke to Dawn at the Kent Reporter today and she said that there must be 8 people signed up.  There are 3 signed up at this time.  She is going to make up a flyer and distribute it with the Kent Reporter one last time so everyone is notified.  After that, until we get 8 residents signed up, there will be no Kent Reporter in Meridian Firs 2.

There are paper boxes with the Kent Reporter in the Meridian Firs neighborhood at their lower mailbox station on 146th where you can pick one up until they start delivering to those who have signed up.

To sign up, call 253-872-6610, tell them you are in Meridian Firs 2 and your address.

First of all I think it is the Kent Reporter that are "screwing up", I was one who let 2-3 papers pile up every once in a while.  I didnt like the look of newspapers piling up not to mention wasting all of those trees printing papers that no one reads, so I emailed the Kent Reporter with my address to stop delivering and then when they didn't stop I called twice.  After two conversations and one email requesting that they stop delivery I was still getting newspapers in my driveway.  Finally, on the 4th contact with them they said they would follow the delivery van around for the next few deliveries to make sure they did not deliver to my house, they stopped after this, but it took several months to get there.

As for your comment stating "Once again the masses are being punished for the few."  As Lanette stated, right now there are only 3 people (which is not considered "the masses") that want to continue to receive the Reporter and if our neighborhood is cleaner and it helps the environment then I say those three can go get their paper somewhere else if it is better for the community as a whole.

Thanks!
