Guess the guys were all watching sports rather than walking the creek. Here is Jaspers' creek walk results:
"Six folks met for the Fall creek walk; three wet walkers, Carolynn Richardson, Jan Snead and Jasper Parham and three dry walkers, Carol Herrington, Nancy Krewson and June White. Half of those folks are Precinct 29 poll workers.
Per usual, there were hundreds of minnows, fingerlings, mussels and raccoon tracks, and an occasional crayfish. The mallard ducks seen last spring were still there. At one point a male mallard got within 10 feet of 2 wet walkers, then soared overhead and landed back in the creek, continuing his food forage. Wild grape vine, one of our county's noxious, invasive plants has become more prevalent along our creek. Another noxious, invasive plant, Russian Olive, though not as prevalent was in full bloom, creating a noticeable sweet fragrance.
Since Big Sweep had been along our creek on October 1, there was a slight decrease in the amount of litter collected. Recent rains had caused fresh litter deposits. An inventory of litter confirmed the past propensity for snack foods and various drinks; Modelo Especiale seemed to be the drink du jour. Also found were several toy trucks, not suitable for yard sale. And of course, 2 ubiquitous tires were retrieved.
Another thank you goes to Charlotte Country Club for letting us use their golf course maintenance area dumpster to dispose of litter bags as well as to Gailya Mullis and Carolynn Richardson for use of their roll out cans for disposal of litter bags.
Stay tuned for the Spring creek walk in April."
