Friday Night it's 8PM and the downtown is a ghost town, a winter chill blows hard thru the air.

A sign in window of the once vibrant and ''Wyandotte Theater'' announced the Trillium Center for Performing Arts ''Administrative Offices'' were located across the street in Gails Office Supply Bldg...so we looked there.

Gails itself looked more and more like a SW Detroit boarded up ediface's waiting to be vandalized by a homeless person looking for shelter tonight.

They Wrecked It !

Make no mistake the City of Wyandotte WRECKED the Wyandotte Theater.

The numerous code violations the required remodeling, the parking fiasco, the outside signage, all these factors contributed to the WRECKING of a community theater movie house in the CBD. Plus the folks in town...declined to partonize it, be honest, when videos came out and you could rent to own, ticket sales at WT droped off perciptiously...and then They WRECKED IT.

No where is They WRECKED It more obvious then the fiasco with Gails Office Supply Store a community fixture over 60 years in the CBD.

Wreked by the total withdrawl of community support in gaining preferred vendor status the City it self screwed and denied , Gails out of numerous opportunities for bids on the truck loads of soft goods required to clip and post all those notices on bulletin boards...They WRECKED IT!

You would think to purchasing agents at the Wyandotte Public Schools that a
$ 2.00/ per $1,000 differential on school supplies staples, files, lables, pads, sticky notes, crayons, art supplies, wouldn't matter all that much?

They WRECKED IT and rationalized Let's Buy Local, ...even if it is from the big box stores in Woodhaven/Taylor

''Political Correctness'' at alwyas getting the lowest bid for every thing, sent Gails down the drain, and don't even mention the city assessments on merchants in the CBD for those always ongoing sidewalk improvements.

Cost of Doing Business in Wyandotte is exceedingly HIGHER than Southgate,Taylor, Riverview, Allen Park, and other area communities...Why is that?

8:00PM Friday evening just about everything on Biddle in lock down, and its sad because it should not have to be that way.

If nobody comes out downtown, then no shops will remain open, let alone remain or worse yet...relocate here from SOMEWHERE ELSE ! you have to ask the hard question...why would they come?

City needs a jump start with a aggressive new business development executive charged with doing the 'ole fashioned things like networkig, and getting out there in recruiting and aassisting vibrant small business relocate.

Why haven't they done it? You have to wonder what are they waitng for?

You're right

Not supporting one's own to save a buck is one of the most foolish thing and person and a community can do, I love to buy American and go out of my way to do it, If it costs me a little more so be it, I want to keep my neighbor working as well as myself. It is a shame that the Wyandotte show isn't up and running, there is really no excuse for it, I think better parking arrangements would help downtown businesses .I think we could do much better than what we are doing to help the businesses in the city, Why couldn't the city and schools buy their supplies from Gails? Really we all live here and should put some thought into how are tax dollars are spent and who benefits from them. KT

Keiko ,

Aka,retard.

You don't price shop?

No Gails WRECKED it for themselves!

Then you want the our school system to by-pass the bidding process, how stupid, don't you know that would open a can of worms?

What do you suppose that those who are made to go through the bidding process would do?

Possibly fill lawsuits!

Ya,think? I forgot, thats not one of your strong points!

Then you have the nerve to tell me where to shop and why!

Gails had the opportunity to have sales and to run ads.

There have been times that I have made purchases at Gails and a couple of mens stores when downtown because I happen to be there (downtown) and felt why drive elsewhere!

The stores or shops if you prefer, don't have the selections or variety in clotheing as do J.C.P.,Marshals,Kohls ETC. not even close!

There's very little for teenagers (especially)males and very little for young children and as you well know, teenagers spend an OBSCENE amount of money on clothes.

We don't have a music store or shoe store and there's no doubt in my mind that a well stocked shoe store would have a 75% chance of making it downtown.

If a business wants to succeed,it has to compete both with inventory and prices.

I for one go where I can get the most for my money and the best selections.

So don't blame the city fathers or us for the short comings of business owners .

By the way wise guy, have you been doing a lot of shopping at that vibrant shopping center on the cornor of Trenton and Eureka roads lately?

Maybe you prefer that ever so busy shopping center on the cornor of Dix and Eureka roads.

All of the cities you've mentioned are in the same boat as us.

What happened to the theater in riverview?

I could go on and on as to examples but,you get the point!

The only positive thing about those other cities you mentioned is,THEY aren't stuck with a pesty little loser like you! and that's all you are,a little PEST!

You crawl back into your little HOLE now and think real hard as to whatelse is wrong with this city and its people.

I'm sure you won't let us down!
Ahh the other side of the coin

And you are right also, The businesses of the city also need to make themselve competitive with other businesses, Stock and avalibility is key, You are also right when saying there is little for our youth in the CBD. The show would have to do major remodelling, stadium seating and first run movies which may prove hard to come by without the business. So I guess there is plenty of blame to go around, and no easy solution, Probably business and city working hand in hand to create somthing attractive to bring people in. We have a great city and the waterfront. KT
