Morning Ed

I can't see any ice on the river at all. Check out the link from our fishing report page to the museum on Belle Isle. There is a web cam that you can move around and check out the river from there. I haven't heard about any ice on Lake St. Clair anymore either. Now if the temp would just stay above freezing!!Mudd Island will surely be a hotspot along with the warm water discharge from the steel plants.
Do I know you? If you use the ramp I am sure I do!!

What's a ''hand line?'' I am just starting to fish (very rarely), so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Must you own a boat to fish for walleye? Is is unrealistic to think you could catch them off a pier? Where is the best place for someone who doesn't have a boat to go?

I am not Ed but...

I can give you some info.
Handlining is fishing with wire and from a boat. You can fish for walleye from a pier but you will most likely get more bass and panfish (bluegills, sunfish etc..) The best place to fish close by here would be the pier at Bishop Park. My husband Steve would be more than happy to answer any questions you have if you want to give him a call at the Wyandotte Boat Ramp--284-6774 or stop by. Also there is the Downriver Walleye Federation. Great bunch of people that will be very helpful. Their website is www.dwfonline.com. They have tournaments at the ramp and the weigh-ins are a blast. All are welcome to come down and join the fun. The tourney schedule is on both of our websites.
