Parking in the Wayne State area

Posted in: Mayors Office-Neighborhood City Halls Administration
Fellow citizens...

I am writing you this morning because of a problem in the Wayne State Area. I was told upon moving there that parking is available. I moved in an I began recieving parking tickets because I would park in front of the abandoned garages in the ally(out of the way of traffic and public safety vehicles), which I was told to do. After complaining to my manager, a clause was thrown in...we can only park there after 5pm! (WOW, I would have never moved there.) Once I got a ticket at 2am on a Saturday! So, I started paying 30 dollars a month (a lot of students have to search hard to find someone to pay 30 bucks a month) to park in a parking lot because there was no other available parking. My car was vandalized, tires were stolen, hubcaps were stolen while parking in this parking lot. I have no enemies. I realized that despite my motion detecting alarm, the community is careless and the parking situation is hopeless. I am a student, as 80% of the residents in that area are. We do not make a lot of money. As an independent, female student, I cannot afford to pay 30 extra dollars a month, walk alone for multiple blocks at night,to get to my apartment for the sake of avoiding a ticket. I cannot afford to have my car vandalized every month. I cannot afford to obtain parking tickets everyday. I have contacted the parking department. They say talk to my manager. My manager has no solutions and is really not concerned. I am in danger of having my car booted because I can't afford them and I recently lost my job and my tickets are accumulating fees. There is a parking crisis in the Wayne State area and I feel that the city is taking advantage of the situation and taking it out on the students, who really can't afford the hassle, all in the name of greed. Everywhere you attempt to park on the streets is a ''no parking over 30 minutes'' or ''no parking past this point'' or a ''no parking''. Every morning, I try to get up by 7am, no matter how tired I am, to drive to my mothers house (to finish sleeping) so that I won't get a ticket or my car won't get booted. I need my car to work and I need it to find a job. I am feeling hopeless, and I am losing faith in a city/country that I obviously have served and risked my life to defend and the city council that I have voted for. Is this a way of discouraging students to not get an education in the city? What is a student to do? Is there somthing that we can do about the parking situation exclusively in the Wayne State area? Please, I need your help!!!!!!
