Councilman Jim Dunn has called for a public hearing on MCCNA?’s request to change the retail zoning on the 5.3 acre parcel at the front of our neighborhood to residential single-family. Now our request goes to the Planning Department for a staff evaluation of the zoning and whether it should be modified.
Staff will make a recommendation to the Plan Commissioners, who will vote at a public hearing. The Plan Commission hearing is scheduled for 7PM on 24 Jun 2002 at City Hall. MCCNA board members will make a presentation to the commissioners, but we encourage our residents to come and speak.
Should the Plan Commission vote to change the zoning, their action goes to the City Council for approval. We expect stiff opposition from the property owners, especially before the Council, should P&Z vote to change the zoning to single-family.
We need to show the Plan Commission and the Council that the neighborhood is STRONGLY IN FAVOR of the change. Otherwise, the property owners will prevail and almost anything could be built on that land. We need you, the residents, to contact the P&Z Commission in favor of the zoning change. Write Commissioner Goldie Locke, c/o City of Garland, P. O. Box 469002, Garland TX, 75046-9002. Watch for more updates from MCCNA here or on our website.
