After 2 years, clearing of trees and site preparation has begun for the duplex
development on the S side of High Meadow Drive. Over a period of 8 months
in 1999, MCCNA fought hard with the developer before the Planning & Zoning
board and the City Council to ensure that the planned duplexes would not be ugly
?“cookie-cutter?” structures. We also fought for wider setbacks, better landscaping,
and higher fences to preserve the privacy of our residents. We won on all fronts,
and the new duplex development should be one which will enhance our neighborhood.
Had the duplexes fallen through, the land could have been used for anything. When construction on Miller Rd is complete, this area will be more attractive for retail development. MCCNA opposes any retail development in our neighborhood. We also oppose any apartment complexes, gas stations, and other so-called ?“light?” retail. We want homes on that land, because this will benefit our residents most. MCCNA will continue to closely monitor all plans to develop vacant land around our homes.
As construction begins, be alert to large slow-moving vehicles that may be coming and going on High Meadow. Please also keep your children out of the construction area, since it will be full of safety hazards.
