Mowing season is here, and MCCNA would like to remind our residents that Garland Code inspectors aggressively enforce the high grass and weed ordinance. It is a violation of this ordinance to have grass or weeds in your yard that are over 12 inches tall. Weeds grow to this size quickly, so it is important to mow frequently and weed occasionally.
It is also a violation of the ordinance to have tall weeds OUTSIDE your backyard fence. We know that it is difficult for some of our homeowners (especially along Mill Spring and Mill Branch) to get behind their homes and weed there. However, because these weeds are on the residents?’ property, they are the resident?’s responsibility. The city will NOT mow them ?– but City Code Inspectors will write a ticket for them.
MCCNA block captains and officers will sometimes place a friendly reminder to mow or weed on a resident?’s front door when the grass or weeds are over 4-6 inches tall. Some residents have been offended by these reminders in the past. For that we are truly sorry. The purpose of this reminder is to keep the neighborhood beautiful, and to spare our residents any hassles from code inspectors. We provide them as a service to ensure none of our residents gets ticketed for high grass by Code Enforcement.
