On TUESDAY, February 17, 2004, The voters of Milwaukee will ''narrow'' the Mayor's race and the Alderperson's race as well as the County Executive and Supervisors' race.
COUNTY & CITY HEADS
There is a NEW energy that is rising that is healthy for the City and County of Milwaukee. It follows recalls, ''uprising'', ''slapping'' hands, ''firing'', federal investigations, and indictments.
We have experience ''new blood'' entering the field and we have experienced a ''shake-up''.
Both the County Executive and the Mayor were ousted. The County Executive - Tom Ament, for his lack of judgment in approving a 'high pension'' plan. For John Norquist - Mayor, his involvement with a female ''staff member that ended in ''sexual harrassment''.
Several County Supervisors, including the County Chairwoman, were ''recalled'' and let-go by the citizenry in the districts they served.
Three Alderpersons were removed through federal investigations.
Also, a veteran State Senator was recalled and let-go by the citizenry.
NEW ERA
The political upheavals has opened doors for many to step through.
It is my belief that anyone running for office, if they have been in touch with those they wish to serve, will never be the same. They have grown tremendously and have learned a lot about people, habits, injustices, biases, misinformation, huge pockets of ''uninformation'' and those who either want to control or those who control.
MAYORAL CANDIDATES
I feel the Mayoral candidates are just a real special group of folk.
They each come to the scale with skills, experience and commitment. Their experiences and skills were often brought out in the debates.
It would be great if ALL could be around the table for one year after April 6th.
The person that is finally standing - Mayor. And, a Special Advisory Council of all those that do not become Mayor but ran for Mayor.
Take a look at the field:
....Sandy Falaron - Neighborhood Business Development/Economic Development
....Frank Cumberbatch - Lobbyist
....Vince Bobot - Municipal Judge
....Tom Nardelli - Alderman
....David Clarke - Milwaukee County Sheriff
....Arthur Jones - Ex-Police Chief - Milwaukee
....Leon Todd - Ex-Milwaukee School Board Member
....Tom Barrett - Ex-U.S. Congressman
....Marvin Pratt - Common Council President, Acting Mayor.
FIRST
The Milwaukee community has an opportunity to ''elect'' its 1st African American Mayor. There are four African Americans running, one of which is the Acting Mayor as of January 1, 2004.
The African American neighborhoods should come-out in record numbers to lead the charge and see that their candidate is victorious.
To be continued . . .
