Moon Mountain got its name because people thought the rocks on it looked like the rocks on the moon. While its namesake would suggest an unearthly environment, Moon Mountian Vista is as down to earth as they come. This comfortable, upscale neighborhood in North Phoenix is home to 55 residents.
Moon Mountain Vista is a quiet community best known for its secluded location. The neighborhood was built in the southwestern shadow of Moon Mountain, and is located east of Moon Valley, the site of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour PING Banner Health tournament. The annual event which draws some of the world's best professional golfers.
Continental Homes, a subsidiary of homebuilder DR Horton, completed construction of the subdivision in 1991.
Moon Mountain (1678 ft elevation, 511m) is just northwest of Shaw Butte in the north Phoenix mountain range. Moon Mountain composed entirely of flat-lying to gently northeast-tilted Tertiary basalt lava flows, which occurred roughly between 20 and 13 million years ago. They represent some of the youngest rocks exposed in the Phoenix area.
