This is the second Halloween that my husband and I have lived in Hickory Hills, and seems like each Halloween gets worse. Last night, instead of handing out candy, we went to a church function. When we got home, apparently parents and children alike thought we should be handing out candy. They continually rang the doorbell, even with no outside lights on. And the thanks we get for that, at 3:00 am, as large thump on the garage door. When we got up, pumpkins had been thrown at our garage door, along with candles in glass jars, and the mailbox was in the middle of the front yard. Maybe it's time for parents in this neighborhood to know where your children are at 3:00 am. After all, the city has a curfew!! And there is not reason for us to be treated this way because the kids are selfish enough to have one more piece of candy. I hope our board and parents will consider ways to make Halloween run better in this neighborhood. There were other problems, such as not being able to drive down the street last night because of people walking in the middle of the road, the number of teenagers out trick-or-treating (tell them to get a job and go buy their own candy). Halloween should be fun, and I should have to get up and clean up my yard because your kids were mad that I didn't hand out candy!

sorry...
Sorry about your experience! It's obvious to me that this ''middle class'' neighborhood is inhabited by people who need a course in ''how to live, when you have enough money to live in a decent neighborhood.'' I'm already saving $$, so as to escape the slum. |

halloween
It is too bad that you were unable to enjoy Halloween. My family had a wonderful time. I can not imagine why you were treated the way you were. I don't know any children or parents who would have rang your bell if you indeed did not have any outside lights on. Is it possible that you have had problems with your neighbors in the past and Halloween was their opportunity to seek retrobution? Most teenagers only vandilize those they already have issues with. As for crowded streets, get a grip. It was Halloween, the streets were crowded because we were all out trick or treating. Drive slow and deal! Again I'm sorry you didn't have a good time. Maybe next year will be better for you. |

i agree ttufan
this is a great neighborhood all in all, let people have a little fun in life, relax. after raising my kids I understand how they can be sometimes and people in general are not bad but they will by nature go after you if you are mean to them first. be a good neighbor and it can go a long way. i can't wait till bigguitar's kid is a teeager because as prudish as he is now his kid will probably be a handful and act out. he'll understand how hard it is to raise kids and that they all go through phases as they grow but most of them turn out all right afterall. |
