SUVs Suck...Literally

Posted in: Mt Tabor
SUVs are gigantic gas-guzzling polluters. Mt Tabor is full of them. I have a neighbor who is himself taking up more space than he should by being morbidly overweight AND he just bought a new (his second!) Ford Expedition, which most of the time carries just him. This same person has turned his garage into--well, he said it was an office, adding a second story blocking a view into the eastern mountains for about a half dozen of his neighbors. So, these huge vehicles line the street, making it impossible for two cars to pass in opposite directions. Bigger isn't necessarily better and these cars represent the rapacious greed and lack of community that characterizes our times. And, I heard Ford is coming out with an even bigger hog, whose dimensions if one inch wider, would require a "Wide Load" flag. To my neighbor--next thing you buy might be a full-length mirror.
Collision

Although I would not have used the same choice of words, an SUV ran a stop sign in our neighborhood a couple weeks ago and ran into the passenger door of a Classic VW bug where I was sitting.

The driver did not live in our neighborhood and told the Police Officer that he DID stop. But the police officer gave him a ticket anyway as he entered the intersection without looking and did not wait for existing traffic that had the right-of-way to clear the intersection.

Regarding building second stories... - that is what building codes, zoning codes and public hearings are for. Obviously we are being negligent if allow incompatible construction to occur in an area.
