US chocolate maker Hershey's has announced it will be moving 10% of its operations out of the US and cutting 1,500 jobs from its global work force. The three-year restructuring plan will save Hershey's US$190 million per year.

Spokesperson Kirk Saville didn't give any real details, saying only that ''Some (plants) will be expanded, some will be downsized and some will close.'' The company will be opening a new plant in Mexico under the plan.

Hershey's President Richard H. Lenny said: ''We recognize this will involve considerable change over the next three years, and intend to make this transformation of our supply chain as smooth as possible for our employees and customers.''

I think it's low that a company that made it's name known in the US is going to make up and move some of it to mexico to save a few bucks. Well I'll be one less person supporting this company now, that's for sure.
Mexico To Start

Within three years all of their products will be made in China. Just like Maytag !

HON

When I worked for a local office supply company here, we would order all the office furniture direct from our local HON just down the street. I know it takes time to make things right, but it would take several weeks to get our order, and then I noticed right on the side of the box it said Made in Mexico.

The next time we placed an order I asked about it, and I was told that some things they do here then they send it out and have other parts made in other places then get them back to finish them and send them out.

This is a local company here in our own town. They say they do this to make it more cost effective for them to make and to keep the prices lower for us. I don't think that there is much of anything made now days just made in the U.S, and if it is then you are going to pay more for it, and it wont be long until it is moved some where else.
