I would agree that you are indeed lucky. It sounds like you've got a guy who did step up in this situation, and that is to be applauded.
Unfortunately, that is usually not the case. Go visit one of our elementary schools, and ask a teacher what the number one problem students deal with is, and they will surely say it is the number of kids coming from broken and one parent homes. Tough to deal with on a daily basis.
