Dan Fogelberg, a singer and songwriter who was known for soft-rock hits including ''Leader of the Band'' and ''Same Old Lang Syne,'' died Sunday of prostate cancer at his home in Maine. He was 56.

(Lyrics from ''Leader of the the band'')
A quiet man of music
Denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once
But his music wouldnt wait
Peace

without a doubt...
my favorite artist EVER. I had seen him in concert probably 7 or 8 times, and there wasn't an album he put out that I didn't simply love.
I know he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer a few years ago, and that his prognosis wasn't good. I remember seeing him at both the Mark and The Adler. GREAT shows...really moving and inspiring music. He was truly gifted, and will be deeply missed.
