We are ending 2007 with the world totally messed up with all the unrest throughout various regions of our world. What will 2008 be like?

We will be electing a new President during this time and many are looking for a change for the better.

It does not really matter if you are a Republican, Democrat or Independent or if you are a member of a different party. Everyone seems to agree that our members of Congress are not doing their jobs so it makes little difference which party is in the majority. If this is true than some of us should run for office and replace those holding that office. If this is not possible, then start a writing campaign to express your views and support those candidates that agree with you. Work to replace those that do not share your views.

I do not like any kind of war and the war in Iraq is very disturbing to me personally. I can not and will not criticize our President because I do not know all that he has to do with. I know that he makes decisions based upon what others in his administration tell him. I believe the war in Iraq is wrong because we did not have the kind of support needed within the United Nations. It may have been well intended but I do not like or support the invasion of another country unless that country is trying to attack us. Korea and Vietnam never taught us anything. Our involvement there was based on ?“Striking first because the enemy would eventually find its way to our shores so it was preferred as our way in beating them to the punch.

The following poem was written by a soldier in WWII. His name is Audie Leon Murphy. I doubt that many of my young neighbors would know who he was but all of us should know him:

Alone and far removed from earthly care
The noble ruins of men lie buried here.
You were strong men, good men
Endowed with youth and much the will to live
I hear no protest from the mute lips of the dead.
They rest; there is no more to give.

So long my comrades,
Sleep ye where you fell upon the field.
But tread softly please
March o'er my heart with ease
March on and on,
But to God alone we kneel.
. . . Audie Murphy
Reflecting

In reflecting, Jack, I have observed that the WW2 celebrant you mention entered our US war with a country that never attacked us. (Germany) We never had UN support for that war either. But I don't see your disdain over that war. Ever compare the actions of Hitler and his regime to Saddam Hussein's?

Likewise, when the Korean War was started Audie joined a Texas National Guard unit to serve again, but that unit was never called to Korea.

Audie always supported the democratic party and was a helluva Shriner.

But you are right...everyone should know him...the most decorated soldier of WW2.

Just reflecting as invited....

Big Brother

Your points are well taken.

I do not like war and can understand to some degree the strategy to strike first and ask questions later.

As far as Germany is concerned, I have lots of disdain for Hitler and what he was able to accomplish.

As far as the UN is concerned, I would just as soon see it moved to another country because it has not fulfilled its role in the world as intended. There is simply too much veto power among those in the security council so nothing much gets done. However, I know I must seem a radical in this and understand that it takes someone with a clear head and not subjected to anger to lead our country or any nation The UN will continue to exist and it will be better than nothing.
