Good Morning Nebl
Your question will bring out certain informatin concerning me and at one time I would not have wanted to answer you but i will this day. I was never in the military although I was offered the opportunity to enter Officer school upon my graduation from the University of Iowa. I would have obtained the rank of 2nd, Lieutenant. I did not choose to do that. I have been blind in one eye since birth and was never eligible for the military with only 20/70 in one eye. I attended a school for the blind and visually handicapped until I graduated from the twelth grade in 1955. In my early years doctors did not want to attempt any kind of operation on my eyes fearful i would lose the sight I had. In 1982, I lost all my vision and had a corneal transplant which after some rejection restored my vision so I could get a driver's license. The cornea was harvested by the Lion's Eye Bank of New Mexico. As a lion member, I eventually became President of the Lions Eye Bank. I have worked continuously throughout the years to see that those who could benefit from a cornea transplat were able to use that service. I also wrote the state law for Organ/Tissue Transplantation for the State of New Mexico. Now, getting back to your question. I wanted to enroll but could not because of my eyesight. Today, I keep a gun collection ready for the day this country of ours is ever invaded because I will fight to the death to protect my family and my neighbors if that ever happens. Now tell me, tell us, what branch of the military were you a member? |

Thank you, LJ
MY mom had a corneal transplant in each eye several years ago. Without this operation, she would be completely blind. Thank you. |
