For the record, I would like to state than research and development for any other form of energy and fuel other than petroleum is a great thing. Which is why I hope you all support the HRE Plant One idea. Sugar cane, soybeans, corn and many other products(including citrus, which nobody is following up on)are intelligent alternatives to oil for energy. The sun, the water and the wind are essential to our continued success. It shouldn't be about how fast you can go from 0 to 60, but how long you can run at 60. Maybe we should run at 45. Do you know what I mean people?

It's Not Popular...

To say in Iowa, but, it make no sense whatever to burn our food crops to fuel our cars.

I agree 100%. I tried using the electric car argument on other boards. Think how much of your driving is done withing 40 miles of home. Electrics are getting better and better. I'm always met with the same argument. ''It will take more oil to produce the electric power to recharge the batteries''. I thought coal was the primary fuel for generators.
Alternative

There are a lot of alternatives out there. Corn has been given alot of attention as a source of ethanol, but you can make it out of anything including switchgrass. Brazil has been using sugarcane for the last thirty years and uses no foreign oil at all. Ford and GM have been making cars for this market for the past 35 years (as long as Brazil has been using sugar cane). Imagine how cheap this fuel would be knowing that all you have to do is have the DOT mow a ditch in order to harvest it. Don't worry about using corn or the corn farmer. As long as we keep making cornsweetner to fatten ourselves and turn our kids into diabetics, we'll always need corn and the corn farmer. Thanks ADM!
