If I may
I'd like to give my opinion on this. I'd like to do so without any major uproar.
I think we need to close our boarders. Close the china market and become what we once were. (self supporting) We to feed our children before we feed the world.

What I'm hearing
Is that we can pass all of the federal legislation we want but if there is no money coming down from the federal government to the state and local levels the good guys at our level just plain don't have the resources, training and equipment to handle it. The government wants us to see these numbers because it is an issue that gets everyone behind it and takes ther minds off of other issues.
As far as nobody to do the work, bull-puckey. The farmers won't chance hiring potential illegals right now if they're not 100% sure they won't get raided and the immigrants aren't taking the chance when they can make they're money doing spot work where they aren't showing up for the same targeted job every day.
Not that I care that much because I can't afford to change to perishable crop. I'm so, so, far from big enough to keep my head up doing that. But the places just a little bit bigger are feeling the crunch. We can't pay a decent wage to attract legal workers who will be dependable. Illegals are willing to do the work for what we can pay and they show up everyday.

Sorry to respond to my own post
But not only are illegals willing to work for a bit less, which we have no choice about offering, but they're, all in all, pretty good people. Whoever they are and wherever they're from, they're here now. Feel free to let the government close the borders but we're a country founded on people coming to better their lives and if they're here now they're citizens in my book. Make them legal and collect the taxes. The economics will adjust to make everyone happy.
And the language thing bothers me too, but I imagine it was pretty tough when our families arrived on this countries shores. We all can help overcome this.
