I just wanted to thank you for the story that you posted for tlou. Our dog of 11 years has terminal cancer and yesterday and today his health has declined. We are taking him in tomorrow to the vet to have him put down. We have been trying to prepare our children and ourselves for this moment. Tonight I will show this story to our children to help ease their grief and to prepare them for what will happen tomorrow. I know it has helped us. I realize that it was intended for tlou, but it just shows you how kind deeds can touch more than who they are intended for. Thank you, Thank you.

TLOU'S RESPONSE:

I am so very sorry for your situation, enal. Our hearts go out to you. I don't know, is it harder to lose a family member slowly, or hard & fast? I don't think it makes a difference. A member of your family will be gone, a loss to be grieved. Many people have shared some very beautiful wishes, poems & support here. I know they will be there for your family as well. Linda shared a site with me. It sounds like a beautiful & helpful site to visit. I plan to go there. I will copy & paste it & share it with you.
God be with you, your family & your beloved pet tomorrow. I will say a special pray for all of you. Maybe my Angel Marie can meet your dog & protect her? She was a Border Collie. That is what they do. God Bless all of you...and lots of hugs. You gave your precious pet so much love & support. Revel in that. XXOO

Thanks tlou

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I am sorry for the loss of your Angel Marie. You are right, losing a pet slowly or unexpected, either way is horrible and hard. During our marriage we have lost a 14 and a 17 yr. old dog and a 20 yr old cat. This is the first time that we have had to make this decision. We have had our dog Chip, a chocolate lab, for 11 yrs. He was the sweetest dog! Chip was always wanting to just please us. He loved our whole family but he was closest to my daughter and me. Her and I took him to obedience class when he was younger so he was bonded to us right away. He was by our side constantly. He will be truly missed. Tuesday when we had him put to sleep, our daughter (who is 21) was totally distraught. We said our goodbyes to him and my husband took him to the vet. While we were waiting for him to come back, my daughter wanted me to bring up the Rainbow poem for her to read again. I did and then waited for my husband. When he came home with Chip, we went to bury him. Our daughter came outside. She placed his favorite toy and a folded up piece of paper in his grave with him. I asked her what the paper was. She told me it was the Rainbow poem. One little poem gave her the hope that she needed. I miss him soooooo much! :( I know it will get better, it is just so hard to lose one of our 4 legged children. I am soooooo sorry for your loss too. I truly feel your pain. Sorry my reply to you is so sad but thanks for listening. It helps to hear from other people who truly know what our pets mean to us. Thanks again.

Pet loss site

Please check out this site: http://www.rainbowbridge.com/

It's for all of us who have lost our fur-babies. There are wonderful support groups/chats and a special candle lighting ceremony every Monday evening.

It helps to talk with others who have lost our special friends.

You have my thoughts and prayers.

enal: glad u found comfort

It makes me feel good that through our grief, your family was able to feel support as well. I feel like it was another God moment. You & others reached out to me...we were able to reach out to you. The circle of Love...that is what neighbors do for each other. In ''our day'', it was in our actual neighborhoods. That has changed, hasn't it? We find comfort & friendship here. We have adapted.
Linda shared a beautiful poem & a wonderful website for all pet owners. I pray that she finds comfort in the fact that she was able to comfort 2 families...and probably many more!
I'm glad you shared your story with me. Don't be sorry that your reply was sad. YOU WERE SAD! We should feel comfortable sharing our feelings with friends.
Isn't it awesome that our ''sweet animals'' gave so many of us a connection? We are all so very lucky to have known them. We are all so very lucky to have met. Give your daughter a hug, tell her to hug you back...and tell each other it is from me. Chip & Angel are playing in that field until we come to get them.
