Great post Ruggy

Gives us a chance to make sure everyone knows how a bill is passed or defeated in our great congress.

First, a Bill is made by the efforts of many people. Those efforts reflect many different ideas. So for a bill to get to a voting point of the process with just one basic concept (make English America's official language) would be rare to say the least.

With that concept, I took the time to look up the Immigration Bill 1348. I was correct, it's was not a Bill just to make English America's official language. Many, many, many, ideas with in this Bill.

Then we must realize once a Bill is completed and read on the floor many times it gets Amendments attached to it. I did not count the Amendments of this Bill but it is many. To many times this leaves us with a Bill that is nowhere near the first concept of the Bill.

So in the end Immigration Bill 1348 was not just a Bill to make English America's official language, but to do many many other things.

Truth in politics.

''I was correct, it's was not a Bill just to make English America's official language.''

The original poster never posted that the bill was ONLY about English first. Where did you come up with that insanity? The poster offered that it was an *amendment* to the immigration bill that was for English first.

And with that, davieboy...you have your demoncrats in charge of Congress. Remember bragging about voting for them? This is the Congress you are responsible for. They can't get anything major passed anyway.

Call it anything you like; but you cannot say that the bill was NOT inclusive of an amendment for English first. They are still responsible for all of it; or any of it. Just like Billary is responsible for her vote to not support the troops by voting against funding for the troops.

Since you want to be technical: Look at the title alone!

S.1348
Title: A bill to provide for comprehensive immigration reform and for other purposes.

Then look at the bill's sponsor and cosponsors! All demoncrats!

Sponsor: Sen Reid, Harry [NV] (introduced 5/9/2007) Cosponsors (4)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COSPONSORS(4),
Sen Kennedy, Edward M. [MA] - 5/9/2007 Sen Leahy, Patrick J. [VT] - 5/9/2007
Sen Menendez, Robert [NJ] - 5/9/2007 Sen Salazar, Ken [CO] - 5/9/2007

In the end, 33 demoncrats voted to dump this; and zero republicans voted against dumping it. They needed 57 to keep it alive.

Should make one proud to be a liberal. Demoncrats simply devour their own. If this does not prove it; nothing will.
