fairly new too!
Welcome millicent! I'm fairly new @ posting here as well. I read several posts before joining in. Still can't keep the posters straight!
I had to laugh when I read Jeff's post, ''noone has been sent to the hospital from this board!'' Oh my, did I laugh! (Between us?)...I shudder to wonder at what could happen if some of these guys figured out how to reach through their computer screens & take the other out! I guess I have to admit I wish I could find that same hole in my puter screen @ times!
Bottom line is this. You may not be sure if this is the town for you. You may be able to find another area that is more exciting for you.
You will not find people that are more caring & loyal than you will find in this town. There may be angry outbursts, name-calling, etc. That is what happens in a family; no matter where you are from. That is magnified @ times in a small community. We learn to share, care, appreciate & stand our ground from an early age.
Walk down our streets, get in an elevator with a ''stranger''. In our town, 90% of the time you are going to get a nod, a smile & many times a conversation! You will not find that in the bigger towns. We don't ignore our neighbors & friends, (or the friend we haven't met)!
When we hear lots of sirens or the medical helicopter taking another to a hospital for (more serious issues), many of us bow our heads & say a prayer for the person & the family members. We know that there are good odds that a person that we know, or a family that we care for is in need & we respond. Even if we don't know the person or the family, we PROBABLY have someone that we care about...worrying about said family. We care. That is what sets us apart.
We are neighbors, we are family & we are lucky enough to be large enough to have many ideas & opinions to agree & disagree with...and small enough to still care. That is what makes a ''small'' town unique.
