Why would it make a

difference if the Board of Supervisors know? As an elected official, the Sheriff can pretty much do as he pleases as far as the Board is concerned. They set the budget for the department. After that the rest is pretty much up to the Sheriff.

I question if there is any cover-up as it is way too hard to keep a secret if more than one person knows it. More likely someone does not like the outcome of something and is making noise about not much of anything. Tis the mudslinging season so we all should not be too quick to judge.
