Yeh, it drives me nuts when I've found an apple that is delicious, but unidentified.
What you described could likely be either a Greening or a Fall Pippen.

Thank you for the site and I see I will be spending some time there.
I think it was a Fall Pippen as it was not a good looking apple in my opinion. They were not a good eating apple at all.
I am going from a memory of over 50 years ago.
