OK, in your opinion, what kind of apple makes the best apple pie?
I think it's Cortland.

I'll have to defer to my

mommy as I have never made an apple pie. But she would know.

I can tell you what type of apple NOT to use. ''Adams''. My wifes Uncle Gene ''Ace'' Stanley is doing 25 to life for making such a pie!

I use

Jonathans. Grandma taught me to bake pies, and she ALWAYS used them. She said there might be better apples out there, but the Jonathans are great because they don't get all mushy when baked, and they are easy to find.

I have used Granny Smiths too, but it makes for a pretty tart pie...good if you like that, but I bake a lot, and tend to stick with Jonathans.
