When speaking to some New Hampshire high school kids this week, Sen. Barack Obama took the opportunity to fondly reminisce about his youthful ''experimentation'' with drugs. It was a defining moment for many of the students; especially for the stoners who had been taught since elementary school that drugs would fry their brains and ruin their lives. Imagine their surprise when they learned that they were not losers, but rather amateur scientists conducting important research into how much drugs someone had to ingest before they'd turn into a Liberal Democrat.
Fondly reminisce?

Hardly. He was asked about his high school memories and he responded by saying:
?“You know, I made some bad decisions?…. You know, got into drinking and experimenting with drugs. There was a whole stretch of time where I didn?’t apply myself. It wasn?’t until I got out of ?… high school, and went to college that I started realizing, man, I wasted a lot of time.

[...]

?“I realized if I had spent a little more time reading, and studying that I could actually have some influence in the world. So I did a lot of catching up when I got to college. By the time I was a junior and senior, in college I got real serious. In fact, I was so serious my mother told me to lighten up. Fortunately, over time, I got a little balance.?”

I wouldn't call that reminiscing. I'd call it being honest. It's better than the past two White House occupants who have either lied about it (Clinton) or refuse to talk about it (Bush).

JOS is quite correct

That spin was too inaccurate. It was an honest answer to a question. Have some faith in truth and in students.
Bravo

I find it refreshing that a politician seeking the highest office in the land can stand before today's youth and admit his mistakes while emphasizing it is never too late to learn from and correct those mistakes.

It would have been nice if Bush would have admitted he had an abuse problem earlier in life and it would have been even greater if Cheney would have stepped up and told the country why he sought and accepted 5 military
deferrments during the Vietnam War.

Hiding skeletons in the closet is nothing new to politics. Here we have a politician who comes out and truthfully admits his mistakes to the youth of America, while a local dimwit finds it more plausible to put down a person's honesty and openess while maintaining support for the snakes in the grass that currently reside in Washington.

Guess drinking all that liquor turns one's brain to mush. How else does one become a conservative with constipated thought processes?
