Been twice

I've been there twice and I won't go back. The first time I was there was for a Christmas party.

I'd heard how good the meatloaf was so that's what I ordered. The service was very good, but the meatloaf was awful! It was so greasy it was almost inedible and the potatoes came with a mound of greasy onions on top. The piece of bread underneath, which I assume was there to soak up the grease, probably would have dripped if I could have held it up. It was totally soaked with grease!

The 2nd time I was there was for lunch and we waited an hour after placing our orders...and it took probably 30 minutes before we were even able to place an order. Finally, since one of the group had another appointment, we got hold of a waitress and asked how long it would be. She replied that she didn't know...they were ''backed up.'' My friend said that we couldn't wait any longer and the waitress just shrugged and said, ''well, if you have to go, then I guess you'll have to go.'' Some attitude! We replied that they'd have to cancel our orders and she didn't even respond.

It's too bad because we really need a nice place like that. I hope this information gets to the people who can do something about it and turn things around quickly.

the probem is...

...that we live in a town where you won't find enough restaurants/people with restaurant experience to make that place as good as it needs to be. The ''nicest'' place we have in town is arguably Applebees, which is pretty pathetic. Generaly it's high schoolers, and the occasional MCC student in the front of the house/behind the bar...and the kitchen...ugh. You're not going to get the service that place promises with the employees they hire. I worked there when the place opened and since moved away.

The people who opened the place had the right idea. Muscatine needs a place like that. Unfortunatey, you're not going to find the people in this town with the resaurant know-how. Mostly because they don't pay enough for anyone to take a job in the service industry seriously.

Other than that...it's not too bad :) ha ha. Toby, the guy who started the place left town a long time ago, btw.
thanks

I am actually someone who can help. I know that place inside and out, as I was an original hire and remained there for 2 years, very passionate about it's survival. You're all very right in your assessments, the problem is I was only one person with apparently not enough voice. So I left, because it frustrated me that no one would listen. The problem, you all see, is management, and recently a new General Manager and kitchen manager have taken over, making (what I see as) drastic positive changes. But they needed help and called me back, so yes, I am someone who can help turn it around. I encourage all of you to revisit the restaurant over the next few weeks and if something isn't right this time, report it. The new GM, Sal, is a Genuine person who will actually take into consideration your issues and make them very known to the rest of the staff, as compared to Derek, the old GM, who couldn't function outside of his office. I hope you all support this restaurant, as it is one of a kind here in this town. When I'm graduated from culinary school I hope to start another one, but in the mean time, this restaurant, I believe, is an invaluable resource.
