I believe that...

...ordinary citizens can be trained and should carry guns.
Evidently these nuts and idiots have not been trained either, but they seem to get the job done.
And..you aren't really suggesting that people should not be allowed to defend themselves and thus die because they don't ''know how to handle the before or after effects of a shooting''!
I can only speak for myself, but if some nut is shooting at me or my family in a mall, and some ''ordinary citizen'' wants to shoot back at him to protect us, I'm not going to ask him to proove that he's been ''trained'' first. Personally I'll even take the chance that some innocent person, including me or my family might get hit.
Same as a hostage situation where the death of all the hostages is imminent, and a rescue mission results in the death of some of the hostages. If I'm a hostage, I'd say have at it to save at least some of us.

Bobsdad

If they are not trained, the odds of them adding to the problem is great. You may in fact be fine with a untrained person puting you life at extended risk, but are you so free with the lifes of your wife or kids. lets remember little Bobby likes to run off and play with the toys. Now you've just doubled the people shooting bullets in his direction. Maybe he should have a say.........

Peace

You guys have valid points!

jesus brings up some very valid legal & ethical questions, bobsdad & chosen safety concerns & personal choices. You are all right!
You guys have only touched the tip of the iceberg of what our law enforcement & ''legal eagles'' are probably hashing out as we speak. I got chills down my spine when one of you brought up the prospect that my child, (grandchild), could be in another area of the store.
So, there is a problem. What is the solution? If you were in charge; what would you do? Any answer has a drawback; something has to be done, but what? Do you think our society could get to a point that we hear the news that, ''it happened again, tsk, tsk'', and go about our lives? I think that scares me just as much.
