Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have been sentenced up to five years by District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to the court and his family.

Hudson responded, ''You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you.''

It's hard for many young people to understand other issues that some of their sports heroes are dealing with, they haven't had to deal w/ those choices & decisions yet! Many of our children have pets that they love with all their hearts & feel
angry/hurt/betrayed by one of their heroes. Michael Vick provided the money & support to allow this travesty to occur.
The ''heroes of the sport world'' have worked hard for their position. The ones that make it are rewarded with fame & money many of us could only dream of. They have a responsibility to their fans, especially the kids that dream the dreams they once did.
It might be easy to get swallowed up in the world of money & fame & to lose your moral compass. I'd like to see those that achieve their goals to strive to make a difference & then for our media to report & accentuate those positives, for us & for our youth!
