Muscatine

Childhood Memories

Posted in: Muscatine

The burger joint was the "Missippi Brew" bar and grill. Still there and has expanded into two buildings adjacent to it. They have bands play there now and also have a huge outdoor patio where bands play in the summer months The Hotel building still stands but it has been remodeled into mostly luxury condos and some business suites by a private owner. As I write this, they are digging the foundation next to the old hotel for a new hotel and convention center. There is a martini bar in the old hotel plus a Thai restaurant on the old lobby level.

Of course; this all depends on what year you were here. An earlier burger joint would have been "Johnny's Grill" across the street too.

Who here remembers Leu's Ice Cream Parlor on Sycamore?   Really good malts and shakes, etc.   and some cute girls waiting on you.

Where do you get good ice cream in Muscatine these days?    For that matter, which grocery store ice cream do you think is the best to bring home.   Do you share it or hide it?

I do know that, although I rarely get there, Lagomarcino's in East Davenport serves a mean hot fudge sundae (and damn good coffee afterwards).

DQ still hard to beat. Tee's Ice Cream is good too. (Old DQ). We like Blue Bunny from the grocery stores. Vague, vague memories of Leu's since it closed in the late 50's; but I remember Wintermutes. It closed late 60's or early 70's.
