A lot is being made of the new warship, the USS New York and it's being partially built from steel from the 911 tradgedy. Old time sailors were a superstitious lot. I wonder how they would view serving on a ship like that. What are your views?

I served for 2 years, back in the '60's, aboard a ship that was commissioned in 1940. During its history several people were killed aboard. To my knowledge, we never worried about any of that. We thought running out of beer was bad luck. Actually I didn't believe in superstition. I thought it would be bad luck. |

I agree, I served aboard two ships and the only thing you worry about is when is the next shore liberty. When I was aboard the USS Miller we rode a hurricane off of Cape Hatteris for two days. The only thing we worried about then was were we going to keep lunch down? |
