Openshaw is running for mayor of Muscatine.  Now at leastwe have a race. Right wing nut job Roby, vs I want to be something Hopkins, vs Mormon Openshaw.  Oh,who else, I can't believe we only have three people that are stuck on the Ego trip.

Maybe the next Mayor will do something about our Pollution?  Maybe they will quit spending money.  Maybe they will quit giving money away to their political friends.

Maybe they will do something to get some jobs in Muscatine.   Who should we vote for?

As of right now, I have to go with Openshaw.    Reading all the things she is involved in in the Journal, I don't see how she  has  time unless she gives up something else.

Hopkins is definitely out for me.

It never ceases to amaze me how much you like to make a fool of yourself and show off your ignorance.  How does a mayor spend money?  Every dime spent by the city is done so by the city council.  The Mayor has no part in that.  So how can you make such a foolish statement?  How does a Mayor give money away to political friends?  What money do they give away?  Do you have any proof Mayor’s do this?  Are you implying Dick O Brien is a corrupt Mayor?  I think he has been one of the best things forMuscatinethese past few years.  How can you make such an unfounded statement other than the fact you are just ignorant of the office and the Mayor’s responsibilities.

I think we have three good candidates here.  Roby has council experience and is familiar with the internal workings of the city government.  She would be a good candidate.  Your “I want to be something” Hopkins is a good candidate too.  The thing is he already is someone, not just a wannabe. Have you seen the list of things he has done for this community and the organizations he has been involved with?  There is a list of them on Hoppiformayor.com.  I think he has already shown his commitment to this community and would make a great leader for our community.  Openshaw is in fact a very well rounded person and also has been involved with many community things.  My only concern for her is she does seem to have a lot on her plate and may be stretching herself out a little thin.

The office of mayor is strictly a figurehead.  Our mayor is a cheerleader, an ambassador, and a lobbyist.  That is the function of our mayor and I for one think Dick O Brien has been fantastic at doing all of those.  I think any of these three can do a great job at that as well.  I do have I favorite as I know one of them very well and am throwing my support behind them.

But to accuse the mayor’s office of the stupid and unsupported things you made in your comments is stupid, ignorant and almost liable.

Well said Jeff.  I am getting a visual of poster Republican, who has proven his ignorance time and again on this board, slithering back to his dark corner.
