While it is very true in African American homes I have though the breakdown of the family unit in general as a whole has been a significant problem in our society. I think we need to demand our parents be parents and rely less on teachers and school administrators and the police to raise our kids today. I tell you I never took a paddling I didn't deserve as a child but each of those paddlings taught me how to and not to behave. This "time out" crap does nothing except to give kids time to think how not to get caught next time. Parents need to be parents and be responsible for their children. |

I applaud the Congressman and opie on this matter. Children need to see how the world works first from their own home, and as their horizons expand to school, scouts, church, etc. they learn how to follow the rules, interact, produce, become leaders or followers but it all starts right back in the home. Media often hypes sports figures as 'role models' only to learn that these figures can be far from role models. |
