Latest poll on Occupy Wall Street Movement

by RobWFollow

From the latest poll done by Quinnipiac University:

This poll was done before the Oakland General Strike.

By a 39 - 30 percent margin, American voters have an unfavorable opinion of the Occupy Wall Street movement, with 30 percent who don't know enough about it for an opinion.

What's very interesting is the breakdown:

-Republicans are 67% unfavorable; 10% favorable; 23% haven't heard enough.

-Democrats are 45% favorable; 19% unfavorable; 36% haven't heard enough.

-Independents are 29% favorable; 42% unfavorable; 28% haven't heard enough

- College educated are more likely to have heard enough than those without college; college educated are more favorable (38%) than their less educated counterparts (26%), but a majority are still unfavorable (42%).

- A majority of all income groups are unfavorable, including those with incomes under $30k, but 42% of those with incomes under $30k haven't heard enough.

-Large percentages of blacks (43%); hispanics (42%); and those aged 18-34 (45%) haven't heard enough, but majorities of those who have heard enough in all three groups are favorable (35%, 32% and 30% respectivley).

-the most strongly unfavorable groups  Born Again Evangelicals (54%); Military Households (48%); incomes over $100k (45%); whites (44%); 55+ (43%); men (43%).

It's interesting that, based on this poll, being a Democrat is the stongest predictor of support of the OWS movement.

3 Charged With Dealing Crack; Occupy Boston ‘Deteriorating’

BOSTON (CBS) – Three people arrested Thursday night inside the Occupy Boston camp have been charged with dealing crack cocaine.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens, who spent the night at the camp a few weeks ago, talked to a man who spends most nights at Occupy Boston. He said things have gone downhill.

“Things have changed drastically. It seems to be deteriorating,” the man told Carl. “A lot of drug use, alcohol use, people getting into fights… It’s deteriorating pretty quick.”

There’s a growing concern among police that people getting out of prison are coming here for the free food and shelter.

Mayor Menino’s sentiment reflects that concern.

“They have a message that’s not a clear message. The problem we have today is that we have different groups infiltrating the people who have the message. We have anarchists who are part of the group.  We have homeless individuals who are part of the group,” Menino told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Mayor Menino says the people in Dewey Square need to think about leaving.

“I just wish that the group that’s demonstrating, not just here in Boston but nationally, will look to where the problems really are,” he said.  “The problems are down in Washington. And nobody’s even addressing those issues of what Washington has done to our economy, to job training, to housing, to education. They’re directing their anger at the wrong location.”

In the meantime, police say they are aware of the situation at Occupy Boston and they are monitoring it.

SoCal Street Cart Vendors Hurting After ‘Occupy’ Group Splatters Blood, Urine

Reporting Tom Reopelle

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A pair of Southland street cart vendors who were forced to shut down their businesses after “Occupy” protesters vandalized their carts are hoping to get some help from local residents.

KNX 1070′s Tom Reopellereports a fundraiser in the Gas Lamp district in San Diego on Monday night is aimed at helping two vendors get back on their feet.

The coffee and hot dog carts were located in Civic Center Plaza, the same location as the Occupy San Diego protesters.

That group first settled in to the plaza Oct. 7 and set up a tent city which has since twice been taken down by police.

Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent.

And according to one city councilman, bodily fluids were used in the attacks.

“Both carts have had items stolen, have had their covers vandalized with markings and graffiti, as well as one of the carts had urine and blood splattered on it,” said Councilman Carl DeMaio.

The damages will likely require at least a complete cleaning if not a replacement of the cart covers, DeMaio said.

In addition to the attacks, the vendors also said they recently received death threats.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to help the two business owners.

After a relatively peaceful start, the “Occupy” movement has sparked violent clashes with police in Oakland and recently saw protesters push an elderly woman down a flight of stairs in D.C.
