Maxine Waters dismisses Occupy violence and crime: 'That's life and it happens'
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) thinks the Tea Party can go "straight to Hell." But when asked about the crime and violence at Occupy Wall Street camps, she said, “that’s life and it happens.”
“That’s a distraction from the goals of the protesters," she told CNS News.
“Let me just say this," she said, adding, "Anytime you have a gathering, homeless people are going to show up."
“They will find some comfort in having some other people out on the streets with them. They’re looking for food. Often times, the criminal element will invade. That’s life and it happens, whether it’s with protesters or other efforts that go on in this country."
But those types of activities do not take place at Tea Party rallies.
In early October, Tea Party activist Deneen Borelli wrote on the comparison.
"Doing a Google search of “tea party activist” and “arrest” brings up nothing of merit," she wrote. "On the first page, I found three articles about people described as tea party activists, but the arrests were unrelated to rallies."
She added:
Another article, about the demonstrations outside the U.S. Capitol Building on the weekend of the Obamacare vote in the House, reports one man — one single person — was detained after being accused of spitting on a congressman. But that person was immediately released, and no one has come forward to legitimize the claim and collect conservative Andrew Breitbart’s $100,000 reward for providing proof.
In comparison, nearly 4,000 Occupy Wall Street protesters have been arrested on a variety of charges, from making explosive devices to rape and assault. One protester engaged in domestic terrorism by throwing a molotov cocktail at Portland's World Trade Center.
The Associated Press reported that there have been at least three deaths recently at or near Occupy encampments. A man was shot and killed near the scene of the Occupy camp in Oakland, Calif. A man reportedly shot himself at the Occupy camp in Burlington, Vt. And a man was discovered dead in a tent at the Salt Lake City, Utah, Occupy camp.
At the Occupy L.A. site—in the city where Rep. Waters' congressional district is located—five people have been charged with crimes, according to the Los Angeles Times. These include a man who allegedly exposed himself and masturbated in the presence of children.
The protests have also been endorsed by Communists, Nazis and Islamists worldwide.
Nevertheless, Waters - like so many liberal Democrats - continues to support the movement.
“So I’m not deterred in my support for them because of these negative kinds of things,” she said. “I just want them to work at doing the best job that they can do to bring attention to this economic crisis and the unfairness of the system at this time.”
"Negative kinds of things" like crime, rape, death, disease and domestic terrorism apparently mean nothing to Waters as long as those who commit the acts agree with her.
