6.42pm: He wraps up his speech with more praise for the troops.

‘‘Thank you for representing the very best of our two countries,'' he says.

''God bless America, God bless Australia and God bless the great alliance between our two peoples.''

Whoa. Back up here. Ain't Australia's prime minister, Julia Gillard, an athiest? Chalk up another insult for the big "0".

Sometimes he only opens his mouth to change feet!

Atheists are used to this.    Most are disappointed but not insulted.   You'd get all upset if he didn't say "God bless America".

So we can assume that you base all of this on personal experience?  Or perhaps you just know hundreds of atheists ?  And you've had this discussion with many of them so that you know they are disappointed, not insulted while being "used to this". 

Your weekly non-believers club meetings must be stimulating in their conversational magnitude.  Are there snacks?
