Muscatine

Muscatine Journal, Clean Air Muscatine is asking the Iowa Attorney General to let the people of Muscatine have something to say about the fine GPC will get.  Hmmm, maybe it will be big enough to get GPC's attention.  How about 50 million?

Hey, big brother, what is clean lungs and your life worth?

Just had a physical...my lungs are very clean right now. As for my life? You would have to ask my wife!

To be realistic, we have to weigh the "clean air?" costs against potential jobs lost if this company goes belly up or moves part or all of the operation out of our area.

I don't know of any factual studies done on the effects of GPC on the health of our residents, let alone studies that show reduced life span or increases in health care costs, etc.  I do know the effects of job loss.

You may come up with a different conclusion, but mine is that this is all tied to the lockout and the attitude is that the unintended consequences be damned.

In other words, the atmosphere appears to be "If our union guys can't work there, no one else will work there either".
