I will only say one more thing about the government vs. free market topic:

Answer me this:  Where do you believe you receive the most value (bang for your buck)?  Services provided by the federal government or services provided  by the free market?  Note, you do have a purchase choice with the free market.  You do not have that choice with the government.  You have to pay whether you believe you are getting value for your dollar or not.

That is why I come down on the side of the free market.

For education, I believe the public schools give better value.   Not every one but those I'm familiar with in Iowa.  Where can I get a k thru 12 education in the free market in Iowa better than our public schools for the same price.   Public schools don't have to satisfy stockholders or pay exorbitant salaries to a  CEO.

You do know that our government owned electric supplier supplies us with some of the cheapest electricity in the state.    Beats all the major private utilities.   By quite a bit.

Mallory, what do you consider to be an "exorbitant salary"?  Our current supt. enjoys a total compensation of  $250,000 per year.  When you look at what administrators are paid at our state universities, it makes you sick.  My daughter attends a private college in Iowa.  She enjoys class sizes of 20-30 students verses 150, one on one tutering if necessary, and professors who speak understandable English.  Thanks to scholorships, we pay tuition about the same as at the U of I.  That's what I call bang for the buck.  Oh, I forgot, She's gauranteed to graduate in 4 years, not the usual 5 or more at the U.  By the way, thanks to Obama's EPA, your MPW electricity rate is expected to double over the next 10 years.

Sounds like her diploma is being purchased, not earned.
