hechta:  I agree for the most part.  Your take is more probable than not.  This depressing situation can be corrected.  But it's going to take a long time and heroes that are willing to stand up for our country and it's founding principles and thus suffer the consequences.  It will have to include a change in culture.

Little by little.

I would call it just more proof that we no longer have a supreme court. It has long since quit being anything having to do with a judicial system and is now all about politics. This is why the fall all over each other wanting to apoint  "so called" justices to the bench. If it was only about law it would not matter what their political view was as they would simply rule on law. Instead they vote which ever way they feel lead based off of their social beliefs. Roberts in this instance was obviously bought off in this instance. This one was a no brainer and was not constitutional, however in todays Washington a constitution is little more than a door mat. This country has simply become a sick joke, we are now living in a police state plain and simple

God I hope you are wrong

I do wonder however if this wasn't---and follow me here before anyone goes off like lightening---an alternate way to help Romney take over. Lets be serious for a moment. I like to joke and such, but I truly feel this could have been a clever ruse. A strong conservative justice, takes the liberal view that this is a just law, BUT as a tax, the mandate should be upheld because it's a form of--- TAX?. Oh I see it that way too, but why would any, especially a conservative justice, allow the president to gain a victory over what he considers a just and doable fine structure, when it is the supreme court's duty to argue a point based on laws passed vs constitutionality? Especially since the president clearly insists it isn't a tax. "NOT A TAX to be c lear". SO---the court had no business arguing or ruling on the tax point at all. In fact if they saw it that way they should have STRUCK IT DOWN. That point had nothing to do with the law. I thought the issue was that the government couldn't force commerce on it's bosses. The voters are enraged. and rightly so, and when Romney wins--- the law will begin a repeal phase and likely killed before it actually goes into effect---unless the republicans lose control of the house and don't take the senate. It's just all so odd to have gone this way.  Am I over thinking this or what?
