REPORT: CIA racing to find Syria's WMD... (hmmm, where do you suppose they got them?)

Israel: May act to stop arms reaching Hezbollah...

Report: U.S suspects Iraqi WMD in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley

Special to WorldTribune.com, Aug. 26, 2003

U.S. intelligence suspects Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction have finally been located.

Unfortunately, getting to them will be nearly impossible for the United States and its allies, because the containers with the strategic materials are not in Iraq.

Instead they are located in Lebanon’s heavily-fortified Bekaa Valley, swarming with Iranian and Syrian forces, and Hizbullah and ex-Iraqi agents, Geostrategy-Direct.com will report in Wednesday’s (Sept. 2,  2003) weekly edition.

U.S. intelligence first identified a stream of tractor-trailer trucks moving from Iraq to Syria to Lebaon in January 2003. The significance of this sighting did not register on the CIA at the time.

U.S. intelligence sources believe the area contains extended-range Scud-based missiles and parts for chemical and biological warheads.

Mutually-lucrative Iraqi-Syrian arms transactions are nothing new. Firas Tlas, son of Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlas, has been the key to Syria’s rogue alliance with Iraq. He and Assad made hundreds of millions of dollars selling weapons, oil and drugs to and from Iraq, according to the May 13, 2003 edition of Geostrategy-Direct.com.

The CIA now believes a multi-million dollar deal between Iraq and Syria provided for the hiding and safekeeping of Saddam’s strategic weapons.

Not surprisingly, U.S. inquiries in Beirut and Syria are being met with little substantive response, U.S. officials said.

??  I'm not sure I've translated your question correctly, but let me take a fling at it anyway????

Saddam's Iraq was never formally allied with the US, but during the 1980's Iran-Iraq war, the Reagan admininstration invested significant efforts in helping Iraq fend off complete defeat at the hands of the Iranians, and vice versa. This is well documented and indisputable. It is also well documented that the US sought to funnel help to the Iranian government when Iraq seemed to be prevailing (e.g., the contacts which led to the Iran-Contra kerfluffle).

In short, there was no particular affection for either of these governments (indeed, Henry Kissinger reportedly expressed this as "Too bad they can't both lose!"), but a strategy of letting them grind each of their respective countries down, whatever the cost to the inhabitants of those countries.

By the way, Al Qaeda  forged alliances with the National Islamic Front in the Sudan and with the government of Iran and its associated terrorist group Hezballah for the purpose of working together against their perceived common enemies in the West, particularly the United States. In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq (Saddam).

 Uhh

Yeah, but I do understand an ali might not actually be an ali at some point or time, Italy proved that. Still  I would like to understand the history of the actual use of the WMD issue. I can tell you I already read a ton on the subject but find that to be subjective and opinion through most. We get the truth so infrequently it's hard to trust the government or the media. The reference to gassing the northern kurdish territory seems to be the most prolific reference to the WMD use history.

????? just don't know anymore.
