Fed Judge Susan Bolton ruled to allow the implementation of the most important and contentious element of the immigration law that the Supreme Court never ruled against. The ID/papers portion of the law clears the way for police to carry out the 2010 law's requirement that officers, while enforcing other laws, question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country without documents.
The requirement has been at the center of a two-year legal battle that culminated in a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June, upholding this requirement.
Conventional wisdom; I would guess. Opponents have said this law is based on racism; but the Supreme Court, the Governor, and this Fed judge never agreed with that.
BTW; I like the fact that this judge received both her bachelors and law degree from the Univ of Iowa; and that she was nominated for her judgeship by Clinton.
