Rangel: "Millions Of Kids" Being Gunned Down By Assault Weapons

REP. CHARLES RANGEL (R-NY): The National Rifle Association has taken this position. There's no reason, there's no foundation, there's no hunter that needs automatic military weapons to enjoy the culture of going hunting. But, you know, it's really basically the absence of the voices of good people.

I cannot believe that politicians are afraid of the NRA. If they thought for one minute that the churches and the synagogues and the priests and the ministers were saying, 'hey do the right thing and we have your back.'

We're talking about millions of kids dying, being shot down by assault weapons. We're talking about handguns where it's easier in the inner cities to get these guns than to get computers. This is not just a political issue, it's a moral issue. And so when we condemn the NRA, we should not ignore the fact that a lot of people that have taken moral positions have been solid on this big one.

I'll post one of the comments:

"Thank you.   Rangel's is the kind of mental mush that has passed for leadership for decades.   But it is not just the hyperbole of "millions of kids."

It's the" hunting": the second amendment has little to do with weapons for hunting.

It's the "no reason, no foundatin."  Unless you count the 2nd amendment as a foundation.

It's the "guns are easier to get than computers."  No, they're not.  But the folks Rangel has doomed to the inner city plantations have the sense to realize that in their circumstances, guns are more useful than computers.

It's the "assault rifle ban just makes sense"   Even if we knew what an assault rifle was, banning them does not make sense.   Most of the "millions of kids" are killed by handguns, so why are you wasting your time fretting about scary looking shoulder fired?

It's the "oh woe is me, it's money and politics  preventing us from doing what's right."  Oh PUhleeze.  PUHleeze stop helping already."

Obama Likens Israeli-Palestinian Relationship To That Of U.S. And Canada

(he really does believe we are all that stupid!))

PRESIDENT OBAMA: So I think it’s important for us to work through this process, even if there are irritants on both sides.  The Israelis have concerns about rockets flying into their cities last night. And it would be easy for them to say, you see, this is why we can’t have peace because we can’t afford to have our kids in beds sleeping and suddenly a rocket comes through the roof.  But my argument is even though both sides may have areas of strong disagreement, may be engaging in activities that the other side considers to be a breach of good faith, we have to push through those things to try to get to an agreement -- because if we get an agreement then it will be very clear what the nature of that agreement is:  There will be a sovereign Palestinian state, a sovereign Jewish State of Israel.

And those two states I think will be able to deal with each other the same way all states do.  I mean, the United States and Canada has arguments once in a while, but they’re not the nature of arguments that can’t be solved diplomatically.
