How many times has Social Security been "fine tuned" to get it where it is today?

I can't give an exact number.   It would be close to as many years as it has existed or maybe even more.

They added railroad workers, farm worker, domestic help, and the self employed.

They added disability benefits.

Medicare was tacked on.

They now adjust the payout every year that inflation passes a certain threshold.

They have adjusted the age of full retirement.   It's been increasing every year for some time now.

They adjust the maximum salary it is paid on periodically.   It's currently $113,700.   So those earning a million dollars pay only on about 11% of the earned income, nothing on any other income sources.   Earn $10 million and pay on 1.1%

Where are the "flat tax guys" who want the same tax rates for all?

They have adjusted the tax rate multiple times.   It started at 2%, total, for employer and employee in 1935.

It's now 12.4%

I believe same sex married couples, and their children, are now covered by social security same as opposite sex married couples.   That's not really a change, just a rcognition of equal rights.

There are probably others and there will be more.

Hey Dave.  Good to hear from both of you.

He lied.  He said we'd get 2500$.  He said if we liked our insurance we could keep it.  His excuse for everything is that he didn't know.  If he didn't know, we should fire him.

Besides, I (and even the state of Iowa) could have done better with my money than the what the feds are doling back to me.  And that only because they are borrowing it from China.  Meddling nitwits.
