As for "my" tax dollars for a new hotel? It won't be my, or your, tax dollars unless staying in a room there. That's how tax increment financing works. The extra tax collected on the sale of a room goes to the city's portion of the investment. A rather smart option. Those that use it should pay for it. Same as a tollway. TIF tax dollars are not "spent"; they are collected. But we know you have no clue as to how it works or you would not have posted such a question. Interest on your car or home loan is the same thing. A user tax for using their money to buy your car or house. They just call it interest. Those french fires you sell at McDonald's gets taxed too. How come you don't complain about that?
