If you feel guilt OR pride based on an accident of birth, you're being silly. You can think a culture is neat (or horrible), but to be PROUD (or ashamed) that you are white, or black, or Indian, or anything else, kind of implies that you deserve some credit (or blame) for being born that way. I don't know about you, but I wasn't given a choice of where, or to whom, I was going to be born. I'm an equal opportunity statist basher. I condemn all authoritarian aggressors regardless of race, religion, nationality, etc. But for some reason, when I bash WHITE tyrannical, murderous assholes, some pack-mentality doofuses interpret that as me having "white guilt." I have exactly NO guilt for all the evil crap done by OTHER white people, because I didn't do it. I also take no pride in what other white people have invented, built, or accomplished, because I didn't do it. If you are still quick to defend, OR quick to blame, members of one group over another, just because they have something in common with YOU, then you're sort of being an unprincipled twit. If, for example, you make excuses for torture and murder committed by WHITE AMERICANS, then you're only fueling more pack mentality. The ultimate irony is that, if you're a member of some group that you want others to respect and look up to (which I don't care about, myself), then you should be FIRST and LOUDEST to condemn any member of "your" group that does something stupid or evil. If instead your agenda is to EXAGGERATE the positive aspects of "your" group, and hide or make excuses for the negative aspects, it's probably because you're an insecure loser who has to take pride in his group, because as an INDIVIDUAL, he has no principles, qualities, or accomplishments that are worth taking pride in. |
