A major medical facility on School Street has some serious handicapped access problems. One part of the building is slightly higher than the other, making the elevator useless. I had to carry my grandmother up four stair-platforms to reach the northern side of the building. I noticed several other elderly people with leg problems trying to surmount the center part of the medical facility. Incidentally, handicapped parking at the facility is a disaster, as I noticed only four parking spaces available for wheelchair patients, such as my 93 year old grandmother.
Neighbors, does this situation violate the federal Handicapped Access Laws of 1991? Even though the medical center is privately owned, the facility does get federal money from Medicare and Medicaid.
In essence, I wish Pawtucket Building Inspectors would note some major design flaws in the building and the parking lot.
